The death cages are if you seen dead man's chest are those hanging cages in the beginning, that those men are trapped in and that one guy's eye is ripped out by the raven. That is mainly what it was use for, prisoners were put in the death cage and were mainly left to die in them as, and when said person died, the birds would normally come to feast on the flesh of the deceased, and once the birds picked it clean of flesh, the body was usually discarded to make room for a now one to come, or left in it as a warning.
