Vorondil Steward of Gondor. Vorondil was born in 1919. He was the son of the Steward Pelendur. Vorondil was a great hunter. He slew one of the wild kine that lived near the Sea of Rhun and made the Great Horn out of one of its horns. The Great Horn was borne by the heirs of the Stewards of Gondor through many generations until it was cloven in two during Boromir's last stand. Vorondil succeeded his father as Steward to King Earnil II in 1998. He served until his death in 2029 and was in turn succeeded by his son Mardil, who became the first Ruling Steward of Gondor when the line of Kings ended with Earnur in 2050.
Names & Etymology: Vorondil means "faithful friend" in Quenya from voro meaning "ever" and ndil meaning "devotion." He was sometimes called Vorondil the Hunter.
