Turgon Twenty-fourth Ruling Steward of Gondor. Turgon was born in 2855. His father was the Steward Turin II. Turgon had a son named Ecthelion, born in 2886. Turgon became Steward after his father's death in 2914. During Turgon's reign, Thengel, the heir to the throne of Rohan, came to live in Gondor. Turgon was served honorably by Thengel.
In 2951, Sauron revealed that he had returned to Mordor. Sauron began to gather power and to rebuild Barad-dur. Turgon died just two years later in 2953. After Turgon's death, Sarumanclaimed control of Isengard - where he had been living with the permission of the Stewards - and began to fortify the stronghold. Turgon was succeeded by his son Ecthelion.
Names & Etymology: Turgon means "masterful commander" from tur meaning "power, mastery" and gon from kanomeaning "commander." The King of Gondolin was also named Turgon.
