Argonui Thirteenth Chieftain of the Dunedain. Argonui was born in 2757. He was the son of Arathorn I. Argonui had a son named Arador who was born in 2820. Argonui became the Chieftain of his people when his father was killed in 2848. During the Fell Winter of 2911, the Brandywine and other rivers froze. In the floods following the spring thaw, the city of Tharbad was ruined. Argonui died in 2912 and was succeeded by Arador. Names & Etymology: The meaning of the name Argonui is not known. The element ar means "high, noble, royal." The element gon means "valor" derived from kano meaning "commander." The element ui is an adjectival ending. Thus Argonui may mean "valorous king" or something similar.
